The incursion of the Central American militaries into business activities is a phenomenon that, although not novel, has attracted attention in recent years. Due to its possible economic and political implications, the subject raises a series of questiones, requiring an indepth analysis.
In 1995, the Center of Peace and Reconciliation of the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress comissioned a study of this phenomenon in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua, with the goal of providing a better understanding of the situation, istd dimensions and challenges. This book presentes the main results of the research project, and hopes to contribute meaningfully to the study of civil-military relations. |
