Despite progress in recent years, women and men continue to have difficutly talking together about gender issues, and the problems are often exacerbated when they are located within the curch. At least these issues are no longer regarded as only "womens issues". In this thorough and responsible discussion, the authors answer such questions as, Does the Bible truly speak goo new to women, or only the bad news of subjection to men? Why has the church insisted on referring to God with male pronouns and images? Can a spirituality developed by men and women work together in the church with dignity, making decisions together as full partners? How can it be that even in the church women still risk sexual explotation?
This book encourages conversation between women and men about these and other gender issues facing the curch today. The authors, all on the faculty at Princeto Theological Seminary. |
