Liturgical Year is the seventh in the series of Supplemental Liturgical Resources. This series has its origins in actions taken in 1980 by the churches that formed the present Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and by the Cumberlan Presbyterian Church. These churches acted to begin the process of developing "a new book of services fro corporates worship" and ecpressed the hope taht the new book would be "an instrument for the renewal of the church at its life-giving center". The process called for a series of volumes for trial use before the publication of the book of services. This volume and those Supplemental Liturgical Resources thaqt have preceded it are the response to thtat action. Liturgical Year is teh las volume in the series that will ve the basis for the new service book, now scheduled for availability in 1993. However, other Supplemental Liturgical Resources are anticipated to supplement teh service book.
Liturgical Year is the work of a task force appointed in 1984 by the Administrative Committee of the former Office of Worship of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) to prepare a resource for celebrating the liturgical year. The progress of the task force over the five years of its labor was monitored by the Administrative Committee through 1987, and then by the Theology and Worship Ministry Unit of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A), which absorbed the functions of the former Office of Worship. |
