This resource seeks to draw together the three reference points necessary for pastoral ministry in a Reformed understanding: biblical theology, the worship of God, and the life of the people of God in the particular church.
This book is prepared for the use of all who are engaged in any ministry of care, whether ordained or lay "Pastoral Care", as the term is used here, includes the ministry of compassin extended by elders and deacons and other members of the community of faith as well as the caring ministry of a pastor. This is in keeping with the broad definition in the Directory for Worship: Pastoral care is the support which Christians offer one another in daily living and at times of need and crisis in personal and comunal life. Service for Occasions of Pastoral Care is therefore presented to help pastors and visitors in their ministry with the sick and the dying, in the confidence that it will provide the kind of help in pastoral care that other volumes in te series have provided for other aspects of the worship of the people of God. |
